The woman in the window by A. J. FINN – Review.

When you begin to read this book…on the very second page after opening it, there’s this line:

“I have a feeling that inside you somewhere, there’s something nobody knows about.”. – Shadow of a Doubt(1943)

And for some reason, though it’s not included in the plot, i was drawn to this book after reading this very line.

Coming to the book…

You cannot guess it by the cover page…at all!

It’s a story of an agoraphobic woman, and how she deals with herself and all the situation around her, also checking up on her neighbours through the windows, all sort of things…

The first thing i notice about any book and it’s also the thing that i love is… it’s written in first person, so there is a lot of information about the subject since the narrator only is agoraphobic, so you get to know about it thoroughly as if you own it!

So there were many things i liked, and i decided to discuss them in points, so there are following five main things about this book i personally enjoyed and why would i recommend it to you guys as well:

  • Unpredictability: When you begin the plot, you’ll have a certain imagery and you’ll ofcourse assume how the plot escalates, like there are certain possibilities that could take place, and that would be the end. But when the truth is revealed, your entire image about the life of the narrator will shrink. And i believe that’s how a thriller should be.
  • The actual turning point: Again it is very great quality that, the plot twist which is been discussed everywhere about this book(without spoilers) was not the actual plot twist for me, because i already expected it…like…at the back of the book…
  • Multiple plot twists: For me, the greatest quality of a novel with thriller genre is this one, and A. J. Finn completely fulfilled it!
  • The message: Also people believe that thriller novels don’t give any kind of messages or something, that’s not true, this one contains two of them majorly and they are good ones… Like the narrator was a psychiatrist herself yet she suffered agoraphobia…the author showed that a major trauma leaves no one so we should work on ourselves as much as possible. Second one, I’m leaving it to you guys to find it out…
  • Not so happy ending: So this is the thing with almost every you know thriller, crime or mystery novels, at the end of it, you carry this regretting feeling that the consequences should have been different but still you’re happy with the climax and the ending. And that’s the quality of an author… to make you feel that way!

The only slight drawback which i felt was- it carries a very slow moving plot, so you have to read it with patience but you’ll get a lot of information due to this very reason because there’s a lot of explaining of stuffs!

So winding up… This is a great one, and you should read it if you’re interested in this genre of thriller plus psychology.

Mandala Bookmark!

This is the first look of the bookmark i made, again black and white, I’ve been making zentangles and mandalas like this only so i tried to make this one different from others…

What if i try colouring the same?

Inner me: Oh don’t you ruin this, it’s fine like this, you know you’ve been doing this…what is on you??? And books are generally black and white, so why, why, why would you do that?

Okay, so i had mixed feelings after doing this. And yes i did it with pencil colours, they’re my personal favourites, they don’t smudge alot, and they give that good effect of shading as well, i liked that i tried it! But when you begin to do it, it’s all too confusing, like where to actually start!

So the next image shows how this one looks with a book, like earlier i mentioned that books are generally not coloured or monochromed, so it provides even better contrast!

P. S.- You can go for these lines, they’re great!

A book review – BIRD BOX!

So it is the first one on my list because, I don’t know how many times I’ve read this when i don’t have anything else to read within my room. And surprisingly each and every time I’ve felt the same rush inspite of knowing the whole story… Many of you won’t even think about reading this book since it’s a Netflix film, but only the book lovers are familiar with the pleasure of reading a certain piece rather than watching it! Also i would like to mention that, yes, it’s true i went for the book only but when i suggested this to certain people, they began to narrate me the plot line of than movie and i came to know that – IT IS ENTIRELY DIFFERENT! I mean why? Why to do that? And i honestly don’t know about others but the people whom i recommended the book, they were thankful that they read it first. Not that creating a movie doesn’t take any efforts, it’s just the story line of the book, since the beginning to the end, is much more intriguing than the movie. And that’s the basic reason for me, writing this whole review!
For the people worried about the print of the book or the writing style or the language, here’s the first page. It was good for me! The story escalates in two parts – the past and the present which increases your curiosity and the clenching feeling even more.

Also, there are plenty of breath taking moments as you read it, and this book’s gonna haunt you after some days of finishing it.

There are several episodes that give you chills, and you’ll even feel like, oh my god, what actually was that thing.

I won’t be giving any spoilers but you won’t wish for this book to be finished even after you complete those 400 pages, you won’t feel like you just did it, you’ll just keep turning pages without stopping!

IF YOU’VE SEEN WHAT’S OUT THERE… IT’S ALREADY TOO LATE.

It’s BIRD BOX
